In northern Australia, The Essington School Darwin, Australia, is the only School in the Northern Territory that is accredited by leading international schools organization as international standard schools – and offer both the Australian national curriculum and international curricula.

The Essington School Darwin and The Essington International Senior College, Charles Darwin University, offers the Australian national curriculum, the senior secondary Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET), and Cambridge Education Programs (including the Cambridge Primary Programs and the IGCSE, International General Certificate of Secondary Education).

The Essington School Darwin is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), and is an accredited Cambridge International School by Cambridge University’s Cambridge Institute.

The child care programs are Montessori inspired, while the School’s Preschool educational program is Modern Montessori based on top of the new national Early Years Learning Framework.

Primary Years

In the primary years, classroom teachers teach core subjects from the Australian Curriculum and the Cambridge Primary Years Program whilst specialist teachers are engaged to teach Transition to Year 5 students in specialist teaching facilities in Physical Education, Visual Art, Music, Languages, and Computing.

A Proven, Successful Middle School Program, The First in the Northern Australia

The unique Essington Middle School program, the first Middle School in the Northern Australia, commences at Year 6 and goes through to Year 9. It is based on authentic, best practice middle school programs delivered in high performing Middle Schools in the United States and in Australian capital cities.

The new Australian curriculum provides the curriculum foundations for the Middle School program, which is then enhanced and extended with curriculum programs from the UK, US and other international school programs. The School has been accredited to deliver the British International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) from 2014.

The curriculum, pastoral care and teaching style is based around needs of emerging young adults. The success of the Middle School program, and the underpinning primary curriculum program, is clearly demonstrated in the high learning outcomes of students on national and international assessment programs. The Middle School program offers a variety of learning experiences: camps and outdoor education, Duke of Edinburgh Award Program, tours interstate and overseas, radio broadcasting, aquaculture, dance, music, singing, vacation school and extension programs, additional sporting programs, to name a few.

An Internationally Focused Senior College At Charles Darwin University

The Essington International Senior College, Charles Darwin University, provides a unique senior secondary education program and transition to University and post-secondary studies. Students complete the NT Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) whilst completing other studies at the University. They are also able to complete subjects from the Cambridge Education International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), and courses at Charles Darwin University while they are completing Years 11 and 12.
